How would everyone feel about instating the 'draw a name out of a hat' practice for Christmas gifts this year? As our family continues to expand, I think this practice might be a cost effective gift solution for those of us without high-dollar engineering degrees. We could leave Mom, Dad, and Charis out of the drawing since they all deserve lots of presents.
What do you think? It's ok if you don't want to do this; just say so!

We are down, that is a good idea. So, is there anything that Mom and Dad want that maybe we could go all in together and get them both something or get each of them something? I cant really think of anything off the top of my head, but maybe we could start another "kids only" post and figure out what we want to do". Want to draw names around Thanksgiving?
I can't think of anything off of the top of my head for mom and dad, but we can discuss it.
Let's maybe draw a little earlier to give people plenty of time if they want it.
It will have to be a draw-by-proxy for JC and Rhoda anyway.
I love the idea of collectively getting your parents something. No ideas yet. For the rest of us...I have an idea to add onto the drawing of names. The gifts could be of things that we are most recently into, but with the receivers taste in mind. This could introduce the receiver to new things and get to know the giver better as well. I was also thinking that the girls could draw girl names and the guys could draw guy names, cause that's more fun. What do you think? Deal/no deal?...be honest—I won't be hurt.
Since this is our first time to try the drawing method, maybe we should stick to conventionality this year and then decide if we want to spice things up next year.
Also, do we need instate a price limit? no more than $50?
yeah, i like the idea rhoda had but also, i think it would be just as interesting to see who we all pick and then really try hard to figure out something that we like that they would like. Rhoda, if i get you, you are going to get your very first beer brewing kit!! you and charis can make a post pardom ale together!
